What happens to my existing projects and chats once the standalone version closes?
Per the official page, standalone projects keep working until December 14. After it closes, chats and project comments are no longer available, and public project links stop working.
Design systems are the only item with a stated migration path, through "Migrate team design systems" on the Artifacts page. Finished files you export yourself, as PPTX, PDF or another format.
Docs, Slides and Design are now on every plan. Is there still a reason to pay for them?
For those three alone, the answer leans no. The official page says they are out of beta and available on every plan, including Free.
Paying now depends on the other two features: Dashboards needs a paid plan and Motion needs Team or Enterprise. The official page publishes no usage limits for them, so the safer move is a trial run on a real workload before deciding.
Is the animation Motion produces a form of video generation?
No. The official description is that Motion uses code to animate your text, charts, shapes and images, with no video-generation model involved, so it produces no realistic footage or AI-generated people.
In practice the animation is built only from material you supply. You can edit it in the editor or ask Claude to change it in chat, then download an MP4.
What should Enterprise admins check right now?
Three things. First, Dashboards and Motion are off by default; turn them on under Organization settings > Artifacts if you want them. Second, Docs, Slides and Design have been on by default since October 15, so confirm users know. Third, Artifacts now support CMEK and let you choose the organization's templates, which is worth reviewing with security and brand teams.
Also remind anyone still on the standalone version about the December 14 deadline.
On October 8, Anthropic announced that Docs, Slides and Design are out of beta and available on every plan, including Free. The same announcement carried a line that matters more to existing users: the standalone Claude Design at claude.ai/design stays open only until December 14 and then closes. Anthropic's help page says Design has worked inside every Claude conversation since September 16, so the standalone version is now in wind-down.
The official page is specific about the consequences. Standalone projects keep working until the shutdown. After it closes, chats and project comments are no longer available, and public links to standalone projects stop working. Design systems are the only thing with a stated migration path: use "Migrate team design systems" on the Artifacts page, and the originals stay unchanged in the standalone version until it closes. Finished work you have to export yourself, and the page names no migration route for comments or chat history.
Docs, Slides and Design are now output types inside ordinary Claude conversations rather than a separate product entry point. On export, PowerPoint and PDF downloads keep the editor formatting, and decks can be sent straight to Google Slides as editable files. Documents, decks and designs can also be edited in the Claude mobile app. For Enterprise, Artifacts now support CMEK (customer-managed encryption keys), and admins can choose which artifact templates their organization uses.
Both new features are in beta. Dashboards is open to paid plans: you ask a question in plain language, Claude builds the dashboard and keeps it current as the data changes. Click any number to see the query behind it, and each chart shows when it was last refreshed. Supported sources include Amazon Redshift, BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks and Snowflake, plus connectors such as Salesforce. Results can be sent to Amplitude, Grafana, Hex, Mixpanel, Omni, Perplexity, PostHog and Sigma, with Databricks Genie, Looker, monday.com and Tableau listed as coming soon.
Motion is limited to Team and Enterprise, and typing /motion in the message box opens it. It is not a video-generation model. Anthropic says the animation is built as code that moves your text, charts, shapes and images, so there is no generated footage and no AI-generated people. You can download an MP4 or continue in Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Higgsfield, invideo, Luma AI or Runway, with Canva and Captions listed as coming soon.
In Enterprise organizations, Dashboards and Motion are off by default and must be turned on under Organization settings > Artifacts. Docs, Slides and Design switched on by default on October 15, and admins could enable them earlier. That date has already passed as of this writing, so if your organization has not told its users yet, now is the time.
If you or your team still have active projects in the standalone version, do at least four things before December 14: export finished work to PPTX, PDF or whatever format you need; migrate design systems with "Migrate team design systems"; copy out any comments or chat content you still need; and find every place you pasted a public project link (websites, tickets, docs, decks) and replace it before the link dies.
On the paid side, Docs, Slides and Design are now available even on Free, so those three alone are no longer a reason to upgrade. Dashboards needs a paid plan and Motion needs Team or Enterprise. The official page I checked does not publish usage limits for either, so run a small real workload first and then decide whether they justify an upgrade.
